Abaza began his journalism career by writing for the newspaper Al-Maiied, and then for the newspaper Al-Ahram in 1919. He joined the National Democratic Party in 1921.

Son père, Said Abaza, appartient à l'une des familles les plus notables d'Égypte, la famille Abaza [3 ]. Rouchdi étudie au Collège Saint Marc à Alexandrie, une école catholique lassalienne de langue française.
Abaza's poems are preoccupied with Arab unity and Pan-Arabism. His poetry was an inspiration for Arabism advocates. He was a prominent member of the Abaza Family, an Egyptian aristocratic clan of Abazin, Circassian origin.
