Bayldon se narodil dne 7. ledna 1924 v Leedsu do rodiny zdejšího krejčího. Po absolutoriu střední Bridlington School začal studovat architekturu. Přišla ale válka a on nastoupil službu u Royal Air Force. Po jejím ukončení se k architektuře již nevrátil.
