In 1900 Bilbao moved to Paris, where he attended his Académie des Beaux-Arts for four years. During that time, he also made trips to Belgium, Netherlands, Germany, and England.
He was born in Seville, the son of a well-to-do lawyer and the older brother of the sculptor, JoaquínBilbao. With the encouragement of José Jiménez Aranda, he began drawing lessons at an early age.
