Between 1755 and 1757, he was Lord Rector of the University of Glasgow and between 1764 and 1772, he was Lord High Commissioner to the General Assembly of the Church of Scotland. [1 ]
Boyle was born in April 1688 and succeeded to the peerage on 31 October 1733. By disposition dated 31 March 1721 he acquired the lands of Ballikewin in the island of Cumbrae from his kinsman, James Boyle. [1 ]
