Pío Caro Baroja was born on 5 April 1928 in Madrid, Spain. He was the fourth son of the editor Rafael Caro Raggio, who founded the publishing house Editorial Caro Raggio Madrid in 1917.
Pío Baroja was a Basque writer who is considered to be the foremost Spanish novelist of his generation. After receiving his medical degree, Baroja practiced medicine for a short time in a village in northern Spain, later returning to Madrid…
Své romány Baroja zpravidla řadil do většinou volně spojených trilogií, ve své tvorbě opomíjel obvyklé kompoziční principy, záměrně narušoval pevnou formální stavbu a uvolňoval dějovou linii.
